2020 has been a very momentous year. With the grim presence of coronavirus still very much evident even as the year draws to a close, there is seemingly very little to look forward to.
The end of the year is coming up, and many people around the world are hoping that 2021 will be a better year than this one. Part of many's hopes is to be able to celebrate the New Year's holiday with a bang: with fireworks.
However, with so many countries still on lockdown, and many others with cautionary yet strict rules in place, will it still be possible for the world to welcome 2021 normally?
Celebrating New Year's In Lockdown
At this point, it is too early to say whether the coronavirus pandemic will be over by the end of December. Here are a few ideas on how you can still enjoy the holiday, even under lockdown.
1 - Celebrate It With Loved Ones
Whether we will still be on lockdown by New Year's or not, what matters is that you welcome the new year with the people who matter to you the most. Enjoy a family meal, and cherish the time you have together.
Play board games or find a good movie to watch together. There is no shortage of family activities you can do while staying at home.
2 - Have A Bonfire
It might be fun to have a bonfire with your family. You can wait for the new year together while enjoying its warmth. Drink hot chocolate or roast marshmallows as you wait for the clock to strike twelve.
3 - Set Fireworks Off In Your Backyard
It may still be possible for you and your family to set fireworks off in your own backyard. However, there may be rules regarding it that you should abide by. For example, you might be allowed to use fireworks only at specific times. It is best to double-check with local authorities about the firework rules in your area.
4 - Public Fireworks Displays
Lastly, you may want to look into whether there will be any public fireworks displays. This will save you the effort of buying and setting up your own fireworks.
Safety is paramount to you and your family's enjoyment. This is why you need to remember to follow proper safety guidelines. Only buy fireworks that have the CE mark. This mark is a sign that the fireworks are safe to use. Set off one firework at a time, covering the rest in a box to prevent them from accidentally getting ignited.
Also, try your best to always keep the fireworks at arm's length (at least) to avoid any potential injuries. Also, make sure to carefully read the instructions of each firework to avoid lighting it incorrectly.
It is still very possible to have fun this New Year's, even if we are under the "new normal" way of living now. If you choose to light your own fireworks and enjoy them with your family, make sure to do so safely.
